This drill can either be full contact or touch to symbolise a tackle. One team of sevens players start with the ball inside the 22. The opposition of 3 to 7 players should line up just outside the 22. The key to the drill is that the defenders can't tackle the attacking team until the team with the ball cross the 22. So you should have the team with the ball passing the ball backwards and forwards inside the 22, practising their pull out and switches until they create a gap in the defence. Once they see a gap the team should react attacking the space.
The defending team should patrol outside the 22 trying to cover the space. Once the attacking team cross the 22 they can defend the line or enter the 22 to try and stop the attacking team.
To gradually build the difficulty of this drill start with 3 defenders gradually increasing the number to 7 as the team improve.
